Military Designation: The entire mountain area held strategic import, serving as a vital lookout point against potential maritime threats. In 1898, the military claimed the entire precinct as a fortress zone and observation post. Civilian Exclusion: For nearly 50 years, until 1946 following World War II, the mountain remained off-limits to civilians and vanished from maps and photographs. Public Access: Subsequent to the war's conclusion, the location opened to the public for the first time. A viewing platform at the summit began operations in 1953. Infrastructure Growth: A ropeway system, or aerial tramway, came into service in 1958, connecting the base to the peak. The summit facilities, which include restaurants and shops, have since undergone renovations and expansions to welcome visitors. The spectacle from this vantage point ranks among Japan's top nocturnal sights, standing alongside the renowned tableaux from Nagasaki's Mount Inasa and Kobe's Mount Rokko.
